One more image of Emily before we get into the images of the performances.

Emily Deren, and the girls of the Eugene Lang College, get ready for the dress rehearsal of their senior dance performances April 27th in New York City.  This is like a “where’s waldo,” cause the photographer wasn’t able to get out of the reflection of the mirror completely.  Whoops.

I’m starting a new series that I’ll be showing over the next week or so of the Lang Senior Dance Performance for the Class of 2012.  Opening night was April 27th and the graduating seniors of the Eugene Lang College at The New School for Liberal Arts performed their senior pieces.  The above photo is of Emily Deren, who I’ve photographed before, posing for a portrait in the hallway prior to the performance.  I hope you enjoy the series.

A candid photograph of a woman walking through the scene in front of Macy’s near 34th street in Manhattan.

As I was walking on the street in Chinatown in lower Manhattan two men emerged from their building to smoke a cigarette.  I discreetly was able to shoot this one frame of them looking up the street as they stood surrounded by signs written in Chinese.  I feel this image gives a good amount of general information about the two men, even though we didn’t share more than a glance.

Pink shoes in the afternoon light of Madison Square Park.  I saw this man from across the park, but it wasn’t his shoes that at first caught my eye.  He was wearing a bright pink sweater that was easily visible from a distance.  It wasn’t until I got closer that I realized he was rocking matching Chuck Taylors.

A collage of bikers in New York City shot from the same vantage-point over the course of an hour.  I’ve always loved the bikes of New York.  They are a so much more than just a mode of transportation.  They are a conveyor of style but especially, the use of bikes is not restricted to only one type of person.  Regardless of wealth, class, origin or interest, everyone in NYC rides bikes.  It’s only fitting to create portraits of these people to see a real glimpse of Manhattan.

I’ve been trying to find images lately of daily life that are layered with bits of visual information that come together to tell a story.  I think this image works nicely as I spotted a restaurant manager sitting amongst empty seats despite the fact that the sign on his door is clearly marked as open.  His facial expression is downtrodden, but somehow indifferent, which leads me to believe many a night are spent in similar fashion in the worsening economic times.
